HOW DOES THE OTP SIGNATURE WORK?
The OTP signature
Technically speaking, signing a PDF document electronically with an OTP technology via SMS follows the process briefly described here:
- An e-mail is sent to the signatory with a link to access the document
- Through any Internet browser, the user opens the link
- Before authorizing the access to the document, an OTP code is sent via SMS to the signatory’s cell phone
- The signatory authenticates him/herself using the OTP code received, then s/he can access the document using the browser on their computer, tablet, or smartphone.
- The signatory signs the document via web browser
- A digital stamp containing basic information such as signatory’s name, date and time of signature, is automatically generated and included in the document.
- The document is sealed via PAdES mode using a technical signature certificate. This signature (PAdES) ensures that the document cannot be edited after the graphometric signature has been applied. This signature does not have any value in the document signing, but is useful only to guarantee that the signature process is safe.
- A log document for the whole process is generated by the system, to be checked in case of dispute.
- Alternatively, it is possible to request the option that the OTP code is sent for each and every signature required for the document.
